World Environment Day, celebrated on 5 June, aims to draw global attention to environmental problems and to stimulate political interest and corresponding actions aimed at their solution. Established by the UN General Assembly in 1972, this international day is celebrated annually around the world.

Every year, World Environment Day is organized around a specific theme that addresses the most pressing environmental issues. The theme of the Day in 2017 is Connecting People to Nature.

In the framework of World Environment Day celebration, UNESCO Almaty Cluster Office in cooperation with UN-Environment (UNEP) is planning to organize in September 2017 in Almaty, Kazakhstan, an event for schoolchildren, aimed at educating the young generations respect for the environment.
