On 8-10 June 2010 Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan, will host the High-level International Conference (HLIC) on the mid-term comprehensive review of the implementation of the International Decade for Action 'Water for life' 2005-2015.
2010 marks the mid-point of the International Decade tor Action "Water for Life". The proposal of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan to organize such review in Dushanbe within a HLIC was endorsed by UN GA resolution 64/198 in December 2009.This event will bring together Head of Governments, Ministers, high level representatives of various UN and international financial institutions, prominent international experts from all over the world.
The Conference will review the progress achieved during the first five years of the Decade. It will consider and develop new measures to accelerate efforts towards the attainment of all goals by the end of the Decade, 2015.
The Conference will address such complex interrelated issues as the MDG, the involvement of women, transboundary water cooperation, water quality, adaptation to climate change, disaster reduction and integrated water resources management.
Governments of the 191 UN member-states, UN Institutes, about 80 international and regional organizations, international financial institutions, and the business community, about 80 NGOs as well as scholars and experts have been invited to participate in the Conference.
The outcome of the conference shall be a Dushanbe Declaration. The Declaration will reflect the progress achieved in the first half of the Decade and incorporate concrete recommendations and proposals to further strengthen efforts during the second half of the Decade for the achievement of those internationally agreed water-related goals.
