An Information Kit «Prevention of the HIV infection» for school administrators and teachers has been issued in the Kyrgyz Republic in Kyrgyz and Russian languages. The Information Kit was developed under a joint project of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic, the project «Healthy Generation» and the UNESCO Almaty Cluster Office with financial support of the Japanese Funds-in-Trust (JFIT).
The Information Kit was developed based on a similar Kit released in 2007 in Kazakhstan. In June 2008 a workshop was held in Kyrgyzstan and representatives from different schools of the republic discussed the Kazakh version of the Kit, and identified a strategy for adapting it for local conditions. According to workshop participants: «this Kit contains important and relevant information that will help school administrators to strengthen activities on preventive education». A Working Group under the leadership of the Ministry of Education and Science has adapted the Information Kit taking into account the recommendations of workshop participants. The Information Kit will help raise awareness of educators and school administrators on HIV prevention and improve understanding of the education sector’s role in response to the HIV epidemic. The Kit will also help secondary school administrators and teachers implement preventive education and develop effective teaching approaches for young people with an emphasis on knowledge enhancement, skills and attitudes for maintaining and strengthening health.
