UNESCO prepares anti-doping measures for the World Winter Universiade in Almaty, Kazakhstan

23 June, the Officer in Charge of the UNESCO Cluster Office in Almaty, Mr. Andrei Chevelev, and the top management of the "Directorate for preparation and holding of the 28th World Winter Universiade in 2017 in Almaty" met for agreeing a joint action plan under the Convention on the fight against doping (2005).

The UNESCO Cluster Office presented the concept of initiatives aimed at combating doping in the period of preparation and holding of the 28th World Winter Universiade, which will be held from 29 January to 8 February, 2017, in Almaty. One of the key activities is the International Symposium on the fight against doping in sport for all athletes attending the competition. As noted by Mr. Chevelev: "Today, in highly competitive sporting environment, the temptation of taking doping substances increases, thereby compromising the moral and ethical basis of sport and the health of those who practice it."

Thus, UNESCO and the top management of the “Directorate for preparation and holding of the 28th World Winter Universiade in 2017 in Almaty," the decision was made to consolidate the mutual efforts to implement measures to increase awareness and prevention against doping, as well as raising awareness of the athlete's responsibility for the doping rule violation.

The management of the Directorate expressed readiness to cooperate with UNESCO in the implementation of the anti-doping measures. For this, will a working group of representatives of UNESCO, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Almaty City Council, the Directorate, the Kazakhstan National Federation of UNESCO Clubs and FISU will be established. The next workshop is scheduled for 3 July, 2016.
