Each year, on 23 April, the world celebrates the World Book and Copyright Day, established by UNESCO’s General Conference in 1995.
23 April 2019 was the 24th edition of World Book and Copyright Day. It celebrated literature and reading while focusing particularly on the importance of enhancing and protecting Indigenous languages. 2019 marks the International Year of Indigenous Languages, led by UNESCO, to reaffirm the commitment of the international community in supporting indigenous peoples to preserve their cultures, knowledge and rights.On the occasion World Book and Copyright Day 2019, according to Ms Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of UNESCO, “let us join together to celebrate books as the embodiment of creativity, the desire to share ideas and knowledge, to inspire understanding, dialogue and tolerance.”
